Electroacoustic
Music
and Sonic Art
Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art is an area within which sound and music meld. First heard in the tape recordings of Halim El-Dabh in the 1940’s and then later pioneered in the schools of Paris and Cologne, it is a medium where audio is electronically manipulated and then shaped into anything from music to soundscapes to sound art.
Rachel first came across this medium whilst studying for her undergraduate degree in music (specialising in composition) at the University of Birmingham (Birmingham being one of the cities in the UK best known for electroacoustic music). She later went on to study this for her Master's degree, in which she obtained a 1st.
Rachel's electroacoustic work can be found on Soundcloud, including her piece Zombie Apocalypse 2.0, which was the dissertation for her Master's.
